Welcome to Year 1
Important information about PE lessons
1C - We have Indoor PE on a Monday and Outdoor PE on a Wednesday.
1PC - We have Indoor PE on a Wednesday and Outdoor PE on a Friday.
Children can come to school and remain in their PE kits all day on the days they have PE.
Please ensure that they are wearing correct kit, that long hair is tied back and earrings are removed.
For health and safety reasons, children must wear shorts for indoor PE.
If it is trouser weather, children can either wear their shorts under trousers or leave in bags during the winter months.
Spellings
Year 1 do not have spelling tests until the Summer term. We do have focus words that we are learning in our phonics lessons each week.
Feel free to practise reading and writing these words with your child at home.
Don't forget to write any home learning you do in your child's red Home Learning Diary.

Super Year Ones!
This half term our learning will be based around Supertato!
We got stuck into this topic by coming dressed as Super Heroes and completing lots of missions.
We were shocked to discover a crime scene of vegetables in distress.
Luckily, Supertato came to the rescue!
SURPRISE!
This half term kicked off with a Birthday Party. When we got to school we were excited to find our classrooms filled with decorations and even some mystery presents.
Ask your child whose birthday it was and what we have been learning about so far this half term.
Fire Fire!
This term we will be learning all about The Great Fire of London that took place on 2nd September 1666.
The children are already really excited about this topic.
Why don't you ask them what they have learnt so far?
All About Me
This half term we will be learning all each other and using our phonics to write sentences about what we look like and what we enjoy.
We will be using the book The Colour Monster to talk about our feelings.
Home learning
All children in the school are rewarded for reading and for learning at home. They will receive a merit every time they read and complete some homework and it is recorded in their log.
45 merits = Bronze
60 merits = Silver
75 merits = Gold
100 merits = Platinum
Twice a year, the children's merits will be converted into prizes.
Please support the children with their learning at home as much as possible.
We encourage children to bring their books back daily to have them changed, however we expect to see and change their books at least twice a week!
In the spring term, we will start weekly spelling tests. We will upload these here for you, as well as on Spelling shed. Tests will take place every Friday morning!
