Curriculum

Our Curriculum Vision

At Matchborough First School Academy we offer a full, rich and varied curriculum in which children develop a curiosity and love for learning. We cover a wide range of subjects and provide opportunities for academic, creative and sporting achievement.

We deliver a broad and rich curriculum. The breadth of our curriculum prepares children for later life in a modern Britain, enabling them to develop life long skills which can ultimately create and change life chances. We have a designed a curriculum with progression, achievement and mastery at its core. As children progress through the school they continuously gain skills and revisit these to consolidate and build upon them.

Our school values and principles underpin the design and implementation of our exciting and varied curriculum to ensure its impact on pupils’ outcomes and their personal development, behaviour and welfare. The range of subjects we offer helps pupils acquire knowledge, understanding and skills in all aspects of their education, including the humanities and linguistic, mathematical, scientific, technical, social, physical and artistic learning.

At Matchborough First School Academy, all class teachers are responsible for providing a curriculum that is suitable for all pupils in the class, including those with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND) with support from the SENDCo. We have high expectations for all pupils and are committed to ensuring our curriculum complies with the Equality Act 2010 and the Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014. Additional information on this can be found in our Special Education Needs Information Report.

The INTENT of our curriculum

Our well-designed curriculum is like an intricate web of connections that reinforces the importance of transferable and memorable knowledge and skills.  At Matchborough, our motto of ‘Aim High and Smile’ means we want children to achieve their potential and have a fun, exciting and unforgettable school experience doing so. Our vision is to create resilient, respectful children who are nurtured as individuals and inspired by the world and life experiences around them. We want our children to leave our school with the confidence and knowledge to be life-long learners with a love of learning.

To achieve this, we ensure all our learning and topics have a clear purpose. As well as academic skills and progression we think carefully about;

  • The MEMORABLE KNOWLEDGE the children will gain and build upon
  • The new WORDS, PHRASES and VOCABULARY they will learn
  • The TRANSFERABLE skills the children will gain and use
  • The INFLUENTIAL people from past and present that have impacted on the world as it is today
  • The NATIONAL TREASURES from Britain that we are proud of, linking to our BRITISH VALUES
  • The RICH LEARNING EXPERIENCES the children will have to help reinforce learning and make it magical and unforgettable
  • The SONG and RHYMES that will strengthen the learning, vocabulary and understanding
  • The books and stories that link to the topic to instil WHOLE CLASS READING and READING FOR PLEASURE

Transferable Skills

in the curriculum

At Matchborough First School Academy we value teaching transferable concepts because they help children to become well rounded individuals who can make connections between their learning and the wider world. We consider these concepts and values as VERY important so throughout their time at our school, children will use and understand them to ensure they are life-long learners inspired to achieve. Through careful topic planning, teaching and a whole school approach we instil our School Values, British Values and life long transferable skills.
