Once Upon a Time.....
This term our learning is linked to traditional fairy tales. We will be reading, discussing and retelling a selection of traditional tales. So far we have been very busy creating a 'fairytale' book corner with a 'Big Bad Wolf' and Rapunzel in the castle.
Some of the stories we will be sharing include: The Gingerbread Man, Jack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel and Goldilocks and the 3 Bears.
In topic lessons we will be learning all about ourselves. We will learn about our bodies, including our senses; we will talk about how we have changed since we were born and talk about what makes us special; we will compare our childhoods and special celebrations with others (our friends, adults in school and other visitors). We will also be learning how to stay safe online.
Take a look at the learning leaflets on this page to see more details about what we are learning. We have a busy half term ahead!
Our Special Visitor (21.10.24)
Today we had a very special visitor (Mrs Barlow's Daddy!) come into our class to talk about his childhood. We each took turns to ask questions that we had planned last week and sat and listened to his answers beautifully! Mr Lythgoe brought in a couple of his old toy trains. One was a little wooden pull along. The other was a metal Hornby wind-up train with a track. We then showed Mr Lythgoe our marble run and Geomag toys, as these were toys that we asked if he had when he was a child and he did not know what they were. He did say that he used to play marbles, which some of us have played in Language Class last year when we were learning about Victorians! He also talked about a game called 'Beetle Run' which is very similar to a board game 'Build a Beetle' that we have in class.
We enjoyed finding out about childhood in the past and noticed that some things are the same as today, such as birthday celebrations and school.
Memory Boxes (08.10.24)
This half term in History, we have been talking about our history. Memory boxes are a great way to talk about our history with our friends and family. Last week, I shared my memory box with the class and asked if they could make their own at home to bring to school to share.
George has been super-keen and brought his memory box into school already! We loved hearing all about his history. Thank you George.
We look forward to seeing more memory boxes over the next two weeks.
** More memory boxes are coming into school now. Today (10.10.24) we shared Theo's and Gracie's. Thank you for sharing your memories with us! Thank you TJ for sharing your memory box with us on Friday (11.10.24). We loved to see Hafsah's special items in her memory box today (17.10.24)! Thank you Harper for bringing your memory box to share with the class today. (24.10.24)
