Marvellous Me.... Let's Celebrate
This term our learning is all about what makes us special! We have started the year painting pictures of ourselves, talking about our likes and dislikes and making new friends. As the term progresses, we will be sharing books about different children and their families. We will be talking about ourselves and writing a description (Y1-3). We will also be learning about how different families celebrate. We will start by talking about birthday celebrations, and then move onto other special celebrations that take place around the world.
Some of the books we will be sharing include: 'My Family and Other Families', 'Marvelous Me', 'Celebrations Around the World'.
In topic lessons we will be learning all about ourselves. We will learn about our bodies, including our senses; we will talk about how we have changed since we were born and talk about what makes us special. We will compare our childhoods and special celebrations with others (our friends, adults in school and other visitors). We will be learning about childhood in the past, talking about similarities and differences. In Geography, we will be learning about where we are in the world, where we live and go to school. We will be talking about features of our school and learning how to use maps. We will also be learning how to stay safe online.
Take a look at the learning leaflets on this page to see more details about what we are learning. We have a busy half term ahead!
Science and DT (w/b 22.09.25)
This week in Science we have been learning about being healthy humans (as part of our topic 'Marvellous Me'). We talked about the main things that all animals including humans need to survive (air, water & food) and then talked about ways that we, as humans, stay healthy. Included in this is good personal hygiene. We learnt about germs and how they can spread. We carried out a scientific investigation into the best way to get rid of germs from our hands. We used glitter to represent the germs. First we saw how quickly the germs could spread when we touched hands. We then tested which method would remove the glitter germs the best. We found out that good handwashing with soap and water was very important to ensure that no germs were left on our hands.
We used what we had found out on Monday about good hand hygiene when we decorated biscuits in DT. We made sure that we washed our hands properly first! We then decorated our biscuits, practicing the skill of spreading with a knife. We decorated our biscuits to look like our faces!
