Welcome to Starfish Class!

Over the course of the year this page will be updated with events that are going on within school and all the fun learning that we have been getting up to!

PE - Our PE date has changed! We will now be doing PE on Wednesdays. You can wear PE kit, this is red/ black joggers when it is cold. You can also wear your new PE hoodies on PE days only!

We advise that you send your child into school every day with a coat even if it does not look like rain as we like taking our learning outside as much as we can :)

Forest Fridays- on these days we will be going into the Forest all morning! Forest Fridays will be starting Friday 18th September

Please wear clothes that you don't mind getting muddy to school and send children in with wellies to change into when we go! Please make sure that they have their arms and legs covered by a piece of clothing e.g. trousers and long sleeves.

Please remember that our time slot for the start of school is 8:50 - 9:00 however if you have a child with older siblings in school it is advised that you do not enter the school grounds until 9:00 am to accommodate for the older childs start time. This is the same for the end of the day with our end time being 3:00 - 3:10. If you have a child with an older sibling it is advised you don't enter the school grounds until 3:10.

Once upon a time!

Our topic this term is 'Once upon a time!' We will be exploring the stories of The Gingerbread Man, The Three Billy Goats Gruff and The Three Little Pigs.

We can't wait to show you what we have been up to!

The Gingerbread Man!

The Gingerbread Man arrived in reception with a bang! We arrived at school to a letter on the chair. We read the letter to discover that a little old lady had been baking and we needed to solve the riddle to find the clues that she had left us to discover what it was that she had been making.

We followed the riddles and solved all the clues before sitting down to put all the clues together. We discovered that she had made a Gingerbread man!

We then followed the recipe to tell Miss Pelling how to make our own gingerbread to help us with our instruction writing later in the week. Have a look at the pictures we used to write our instructions.

Outdoor Learning!

During one of our Outdoor learning sessions we retold the story of The Gingerbread Man. As we retold it we had to hunt in pairs to find the different characters of the story. We had a great time running as fast as the gingerbread man and repeating the line 'Run, run, run, as fast as you can, you can't catch me, i'm The Gingerbread Man!'

Have a look at the pictures below!

We enjoyed decorating gingerbread men

More outdoor Learning! We have been practicing our tricky words

The Three Billy Goats Gruff

We started this book of by discussing what the troll looked like and words that we could use to describe him. We have enjoyed reading the story and finding out what happened to the troll at the end and how the troll would feel.

We have then worked hard over the past two weeks to describe the troll ourselves using our phonics skills and also write a sorry letter to the troll pretending to be the three billy goats.

We have also been getting creative and painting our own trolls! Pictures will be coming shortly! Keep an eye out.

The Three Little Pigs

For the next two weeks we are looking at the story of The Three Little Pigs!

Below are some pictures of the activities we are getting up to!

We are also developing our writing skills these next two weeks and having a go at rewriting the story of the three little pigs. We have used talk for writing to help us remember the story by giving key words actions using signalong signs and talk for writing signs.

Our new topic is ' All around the World'!

We will be visiting a range of different countries throughout our learning! We have a travel agents role play to aid your learning and have planned lots of exciting activities!

Our learning during this topic was mainly based on zoom and at home due to lockdown :(

In phonics we have been working really hard to learn our Phase 2 sounds.

We now know all of these sounds!
