Brrr! It's cold out there!
This half term our topic focus is the polar regions. We will be learning about where the polar regions are in the world, polar animals and the similarities and differences between the Arctic and the Antarctic.
Our class book is:
The story is about a Grandfather who writes letters home to his grandchild about his expedition to find the polar bears in the Arctic. So far Grandfather is making the long journey through the North Sea.
We have also been learning about other famous explorers and their expeditions.
1WB's trip to the north Pole!
Yesterday the children from 1WB experienced their very own voyage to the 'North Pole'. Luckily, the weather was appropriately 'freezing' as a local storm was brewing. It animated the waves around us as we cruised our way over the freezing waters, spotting sea life as we navigated northwards. This is an overview of the route we took.
Some of the children were brave enough to take a turn to captain the boat and we arrived safely at our destination 'Walrus Bay'.We then made our way by foot through the snow to get our provisions from the much loved 'Mailing Station'. The children stocked up on all sorts of goodies including meat, fruit, biscuits and a few essentials they had forgotten.
In great gusts of wind and sleeting snow, a team effort helped erect the tent and we were able to relax and warm ourselves by the fire and drink delicious mugs of hot chocolate.
Finally, after our refreshments, we made our long journey up to Great bear Ridge where we were lucky enough to spot some fine specimens of the white polar bears.
All in all I think we had a fantastic adventure!
