Our focus when playing this week is from the
'Physical Development - Health and Self-Care'
part of the curriculum.
"The children need to know the importance for good health of physical exercise, and a healthy diet, and talk about ways to keep healthy and safe. They must manage their own basic hygiene and personal needs successfully, including dressing and going to the toilet independently."
It would be great if this week you to include the children in deciding what food they would like to eat. Talk to them about the variety of food we need to keep us healthy, those foods that are good for us and the ones we should only have a little bit of.
The children can make a weekly menu of the food they will eat each day.
They could also help you write the shopping list or even order the food online.
Children also need to understand how important exercise is for us.
Could you decide together on exercises you could do each day?
This could be a walk around your close, 5 minutes on the trampoline or a 'Go Noodle' dance. Whatever you both enjoy doing together.
The final strand of this is showing independence for their hygiene and personal needs. This can be as simple as remembering to wash their hands when they have been to the toilet without you having to remind them.
This is a really good time to practise dressing as we have more time at home! We know it is so easy to dress your child when you are in a rush but take this time to practise the skills and show them how to do it.
Remember zips are really tricky for children but practise makes perfect.
