Welcome to 4SC

Welcome to our class page where you'll find out lots of information about what we will be doing this year in Year 4.

We are so excited to meet you all and get to know all about you.

Year 4 is an exciting year and our days will be jam packed with fun learning activities!!

If you have any questions, please always ask.

Mrs Smith and Mrs Clarke

Spring 1- The Vikings

This half term we will be learning all about the Vikings.

When did they arrive in Britain? What did they do here?

Why did they come here? How long did they stay? and lots more.

PE- Swimming will continue every Monday afternoon and outdoor PE is on a Thursday so children are to wear PE on these 2 days only please.

Hrothgar raids Year 4

Hrothgar the Viking raided Year 4 classrooms on Wednesday morning! The children spent the whole day fully immersed as Vikings. They became characters and acted out a Viking funeral and a Viking God story. The children also played a game called 'Hnefatafl' and saw first-hand how Vikings used the resources they had at the time to create a fire to cook and keep warm. They enjoyed learning about the different weapons and what they were used for. All of the information they learnt will help the children make links in their learning over the coming weeks. The whole of 4SC made a fantastic effort with their costumes and enjoyed their learning for the day.

Autumn Term 2

This half term we will be learning about the Anglo Saxons.

We will be exploring the reasons they settled in Britain, their way of life as well as learning about past times and games.

We will focus on the discovery at Sutton Hoo, writing a newspaper report about the event as well as looking at the story Beowulf to help us write descriptions.

Autumn Term 1

The first topic for Autumn Term is called 'Snap Crackle and Roar' and is based around the book 'There's a Lion in my cornflakes'.

We will be looking at and tasting various cereal brands as well as investigating their advertising techniques.

We will be exploring persuasive writing and after designing our own cereal we will create our own persuasive advert to convince someone to by our brand of cereal rather than a leading brand!!

When exploring the book we learn about a young boy called Eric and the trouble he faces when he saves up coupons on a cereal box to win his very own lion!

Who can get to Bronze, Silver or Gold?

Home learning can take many different forms, if you are part of a club, go swimming, have a hobby or even help around the house this can all go towards your home learning as well as your reading.

As well as all the wonderful things you do outside of school, we would

heartLOVEheart it if you could read your school reading book 3 x a week.

To get BRONZE you need to have 15 Home Learning Points.

To reach SILVER you need to have 20 Home Learning Points.

To achieve GOLD you need to have 25 Home Learning Points.

Remember a grown up needs to sign your Home Learning Record, you can bring it in everyday so we can see how much you have been doing at home.

Each week you will have SPaG homework.

This takes the form of spellings.

These spellings usually follow a rule and you will have 3 bonus words to learn as well.

You will be tested on a FRIDAY and new spellings given out the same day, Your RED SPaG book is for you to take your spellings to and from home so you can learn them.

It MUST come into school on a FRIDAY so you can glue in your new spellings.

Please make sure you come to school dressed in the correct PE kit.

Indoor PE is on Wednesdays

Outdoor PE is on Thursdays

As the weather gets colder please remember to dressed accordingly. A tracksuit and suitable trainers will be needed especially when we do PE Outdoors.

Please remember to log on to Timetable Rockstars, in year 4 the time reduces to 3 minutes!!

The more you practice the quicker you will get.
