Welcome to 2C
This year will probably be different to other school years so far and there will be lots of changes but don't worry we are here to help!
Our time slot for the start of our school day is 9 - 9:20 and our time slot for the end of the day is 3:10 - 3:20. We will be in a year group bubble so the children in Year 2 will have lunch and playtimes together.
We are excited for the new challenges of the year and the learning journey that is ahead of us. We will be keeping our page updated about our learning and our new topics. We appreciate your support and are happy to discuss any questions or concerns that you may have.
Mrs Cartwright, Mrs Fowkes and Mrs Ruseva
An African Safari adventure
Our new topic is all about Africa. We have been watching some great videos on live webcams of some of the amimals that live there. Click on the link so you can watch them too!
Our book we have been focusing on is called the Lion Inside by Rachel Bright. The illustrator is Jim Field. Do you remember him?
We have been learning about the countries in Africa and comparing it to the United Kingdom. Did you know there are 54 countries in Africa?
Life as a park keeper
This half term, we received a letter from a park keeper and he was not very happy at all!
We will be learning about the habitats of different woodland animals and will take on the role of the park keeper to look after our school and encourage more people to look after our environment.
Find out more about our learning in the learning leaflet below.
If you go down to the woods...
Our new topic is about our local area and creatures you might find there. We are reading the book ‘The disgusting sandwich.’
Take a look at our learning leaflet below to find out more about our learning this half term.
Important information about 2C
Home learning
All children in the school are rewarded for reading and for learning at home. They will receive a merit every time they read and complete some homework and it is recorded in their log.
15 merits = Bronze
20 merits = Silver
25 merits = Gold
At the end of the half term the children's merits will be converted into learning loot to spend in the homework hut. Please support the children with their learning at home.
Children are also rewarded within our classroom for reading 50 times and they will receive a bookmark and a prize.
50 merits = Purple
PLEASE NOTE Your child will change their reading books once a week on a Monday and they will need to be returned to school on a Friday to be quarantined ready for the following week.
Home learning online
Your child has logins in the front of their red home learning diaries. These logins can be used to access different programs that we use in school and could be used at home to further their learning.
Bug club is a website where children can access books that are tailored to the book band that they are reading within school. It also includes questions to check their understanding and gives rewards too! This reading can then be recorded in their diaries to earn more merits.
Spelling shed can be used at home to help children to practise their spellings. This can be recorded in their red books too.
Spellings
We will be assessing the children on their phonics and their spellings and will begin to send home spellings to practise at home later in the year. In the meantime, we have attached a year 1 and year 2 word mat in the back of the red home learning diaries. The children need to be able to read and write all of these words by the end of the year so any practise at home would be very helpful!
PE lessons
We have Indoor PE on a Friday afternoon and Outdoor PE on a Monday afternoon.
Children can come to school and remain in their PE kits all day on the days they have PE.
They can can wear tracksuit tops and bottoms in the cooler weather. If they have indoor PE, then can wear warmer sports clothing over their shorts and t-shirt, or choose to wear tracksuit bottoms for the day.
Equipment
We would like children to bring the following things with them:
Please note, children will not be required to bring many items to school and therefore should not need a rucksack.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
