All creatures great and small
In our new topic, we have been learning about the continent of Africa. We have listened to these songs to help us to learn the names of the continents and the oceans.
We have been learning about the animals that live there and have been reading the book The Lion Inside. We wrote instructions to help the timid, little mouse to roar loudly like the courageous lion.
We learnt that no matter how small you are, everyone has a road inside of them!
In the second half term, we will be learning more about different animals and their habitats and how they adapt to survive.
To find out more about our learning this term, read our learning leaflets.
Are you brave enough to try the most revolting recipe you’ve ever tasted? If you are, then follow the instructions below.
1. First, warm up squelchy brown mud but be careful not to burn yourself.
2. Next, pour in 4 cupfuls of old, crunchy bogies and stir slowly.
3. Then sprinkle on tiny toenail clippings from Mrs Fowkes' feet.
4. After add some gooey, squishy eyeballs.
5. Finally, squeeze on some dripping blood and some radioactive slime.
The Jolly Christmas Postman
We have been reading the story of the Jolly Christmas Postman and have been sequencing the events to find out which fairytale character he meets.
We acted out the story using talk for writing and then rewrote part of the story ourselves. We have been trying to use adjectives, adverbs, conjunctions and commas in a list.
Who's that Guy?
Our next topic is all about Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder plot. We have learnt all about why we celebrate bonfire night. There is even a local link to our topic. Surprisingly, some of the plotters were related to the Throckmorton family who live at Coughton Court! We have been learning about the 13 men behind the plot and why the plot failed. Then we have used that information to write a non-chronological report using all the correct features. Take a look at our learning leaflet to find out more about our learning this half term...
On the last week of term, the children presented their Harvest production to their parents and carers. It was absolutely fantastic and all of the staff were so impressed with their loud, voices, acting and their beautiful singing. Well done year 2!
A very big thank you for all you harvest donations too!
At the Monster Zoo, we thought about our feelings, thoughts and what we could see. We have been trying to find synonyms to improve our vocabulary. We will be writing diaries about our adventure.
One miserable day, we came back from assembly and all of our precious books had gone missing! There were tipped over chairs and ripped up pages in our book corner. We couldn't believe our eyes! We wrote letters to Miss Halion to ask for her help. Finally, we found the culprit...
It was Nibbles, the book monster!
