1G - Miss Gill

Welcome to 1G

This year will probably be different to other school years so far and there will be lots of changes but don't worry we are here to help!

Our time slot for the start of our school day is 8:50 - 9:00 and our time slot for the end of the day is 3:00 - 3:10. We will be in a year group bubble so the children in Year 1 will have lunch and play times together.

We are excited for the new challenges of the year and the learning journey that is ahead of us. We will be keeping our page updated about our learning and our new topics. We appreciate your support and are happy to discuss any questions or concerns that you may have.

Important information about 1G

Home learning

All children in the school are rewarded for reading and for learning at home. They will receive a merit every time they read and complete some homework and it is recorded in their log.

15 merits = Bronze

20 merits = Silver

25 merits = Gold

At the end of the half term the children's merits will be converted into learning loot to spend in the homework hut. Please support the children with their learning at home.

PLEASE NOTE Your child will change their reading books once a week on a Monday and they will need to be returned to school on a Friday to be quarantined ready for the following week.

PE lessons

We have Outdoor PE on a Tuesday afternoon and Indoor PE on a Wednesday afternoon.

Children can come to school and remain in their PE kits all day on the days they have PE.

They can can wear tracksuit tops and bottoms in the cooler weather. If they have indoor PE, they can wear warmer sports clothing over their shorts and t-shirt, or choose to wear tracksuit bottoms for the day.

Equipment

We would like children to bring the following things with them:

  • Lunch box/bag - if not having a school dinner
  • Drinks bottle
  • Reading book and diary on a Monday and a Friday
  • Pencil Case (if possible, please bring a pencil, sharpener, rubber, variety of pencil crayons, felt tips. ruler)  Any resources you can not provide will be provided by school.
  • Coat

Please note, children will not be required to bring many items to school and therefore should not need a rucksack.

Our Topic for Autumn 2 is:

To kick start our new topic, we dressed up as something typically British. We were joined by the Queen and her guards, Sir David Attenborough, Professor Brian Cox, England footballers, a suffragette, Paddington Bear, Harry Potter as well as colours of the Union Jack.

08.12.20. We had fun at our Christmas Party!

16.11.20 Anti-Bullying Week. Today we wore odd socks for anti-bullying awareness. We talked about how to be united and thought of slogans to promote kindness and anti-bullying in our class and around school.

13.11.20. Forces Friday! Today we celebrated the Armed Forces by coming dressed as soldiers and sailors, as doctors and nurses, evacuees and some of us came dressed in red white and blue. In class we learnt about evacuees and imagined what it would be like if we had to be evacuated. We designed a war medal for bravery, victory or service then we learnt about rationing and designed our favourite dinner to eat before rations started.

Once Upon A Time ...

Our first topic this year is all about Traditional Tales. We will be reading the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears first.
